I82 Chat Log, July 23rd From 18:42 Magistrate > Will there be manual transmission cars ? mrBrown > No manual transmission cars - sorry. DeSoto> Are cutscenes going to be all polygony again ? mrBrown > Kind of. . . mrBrown > We upped the detail of the engine and so we did the same to the cutscenes. . . mrBrown > We got mouths now. Captain Gram > What interactive things will be in the environments? Captain Gram > And I was wondering about water . . . will there be any? mrBrown > Switches open gates and doors, things come crashing down when shot. mrBrown > There is rad water. Sui Syco > Zack, will you be at the 'blessing of the cars' show? mrBrown > With bells! (Zack Norman) Sui Syco > Grin . . . another thing is, any possibility of a tournament, ala quake-style where onliners can compete for a car of some other cool prize? mrBrown > Hrmm - I'll talk to the marketing cats - good idea. Stadinko > This is kind of an extension of Grams question. How is the "out of the car" interaction with the map? Will you be able to enter the buildings, etc? And will you have access to weapons when outside the vehicle? mrBrown> You will be able to enter buildings and run through tunnels, ect. mrBrown> You will have your handgun while outside. mrBrown> Interstate '82 -- It's time to get out of the car! Sui Cyco> Will the out of the car experience be similar to that of battlezone? mrBrown> Hrmm, kind of -- only we got 1st and 3rd person views... mrBrown> and we ORKC! Anomoly> Will I'82 be supported by gamespy and allowed outside third party server setups similar to Quake 2 ? mrBrown> To be decided . . . if the game does super well we think it will. Ribald> Can you give us any info on whether passengers will be possible, and if so, what powers will they have inside the car? mrBrown> Still workign on the passenger functionality -- maybe, maybe not. However you will be able to get the dreaded head shot out of the side still. Sui Cyco> Will car physics be more realisticthis time around? I'm looking forward to the ability to have weight transfer, drifting, and realistic understeer/oversteer abilities, like in Gran Turismo for Playstation... possible? mrBrown> Yes the physics will ROCK! It will be very realistic - the car will even tumble. mrBrown> and ROLL! Anomoly> Will cars explode when they flip over, or will you be ableto get out? mrBrown> No the car will not explode - you will be able to exit it and you may even be able to turn it back over as a pedestrian. Covak> heh.. help someone flip hteir ride over, then blow 'em away and steal it? mrBrown> You got it. Viper91> Will there be a Porshce in the game? Well, and Interstate version of one :) mrBrown> No. Sui Cyco> Shiva, BMW? mrBrown> Thats the interstate name for Porshe. Vigilante > You mentioned in your interview with PCGamer that beating an opponent is by killing the driver, not destroying the car. With this in mind, will the player be able to move outside their car and even hijack other cars ala Grand mrBrown> Yes to the GTA thing. Sui Cyco > Will we get turbos, and will they have the oh so cool turbine spooling sound? mrBrown> yes we do have turbos this is the fucking 80's! Joyride > Will you be able to hide your car in the back of your buddies truck? mrBrown> 'Hide inside the truck' is being worked out but I no promise. Sui Cyco> How 'advanced' will config options be this time, have you thought about advanced options like turbo size, sway bar diameter, etc? mrBrown> No man this is an action game - leave that sh*t for BURNOUT ( a fun game BTW ) Megatron > Happy BDay. The original i76 took place mostly in barren deserts. Will i82's enviornments be more elaborate??? Will there be big cities to cruise in? Also, are you going to have a specialty 80's band do all the music as in the first game or are you going to liscense some bands that were popular back then? mrBrown> There will be rad new wave music and I cna't tell you all about the deal we are making to sign a band that is super cool...ut the music will be to the 80s what the last game was to the 70s Vigilante> What can you tell us about motorbikes in I82 zack? mrBrown> Motorbikes - we have them - you ride them Phat > Since the game will be 3d hardware only, will it have support for bump mapping, reflections, large textures, or any other hardware only advantages? mrBrown > We might be able to get the advanced bump map type featurer. Desoto > o you know anything about the I76 movie? and who would you like to see cast in it? mrBrown > 'm a co-producer on the film which has not been cast as of yet. I'd love to see Taurus played by Yaphet Koto and Groove, by Jan Michael Vincent. (joke ) Captain Gram > You mentioned multiplayer "portals" eariler... what are those? Loco > Will there be trains or other moving objects in i82, and if so, how will we be able to interact with them? mrBrown > There will be trains -- for you to jump onto Sui Cyco> Will there be an ability to have something like Quake-C.. interstate-C or something.. where we can do some really heavy duty modding like Team Fortress did for Quake? mrBrown > We haven't decided yet. Loco > will there be more weapons that don't cause actual damage to the enemy, but instead screw their car up and confuse them and stuff, kind of like oil slicks, but more variety. mrBrown> YES! Fugazi> First, will there be a more close, quake like city feeling , or an open , spacious, desert feeling like regular I76? mrBrown >Both we have cramped cities with parking structures and stuff AND open terrain area similar to i76 (w/o the popping) Fugazi > and second, will there be visual body damage, such as losing limbs/blood? mrBrown> No - its a car game.
